10 June 2026 | 12:00 – 2:00 pm
Representation of the State of Lower Saxony to the EU
Rue Montoyer 61, 1000 Brussels
Organized by IGBCE and the German Federation of Chemical Employers’ Associations (BAVC)
The revision of the IORP II Directive has moved to the centre of the European policy debate on occupational pensions. With the European Commission having tabled its proposal and both the European Parliament and the Council now shaping their positions, key decisions lie ahead that will affect how occupational pension schemes are governed and supervised across the EU.
The design of the revised framework will be crucial to safeguarding well‑functioning national pension systems, ensuring legal certainty for employers and social partners, and preserving the attractiveness of occupational pensions in Europe.
The German social partners of the chemical industry, IGBCE and BAVC, invite you to a Lunch Discussion to explore the following questions with perspectives from the European Parliament, the Commission, and the social partners:
- Scope and objectives of the proposal:
To what extent does the Commission proposal contribute to both strengthening occupational pensions in their primary role as retirement provision systems and mobilising additional long‑term investment capital in the context of the Savings and Investments Union? - Regulatory framework and implementation:
How are the proposed regulatory and supervisory elements expected to shape participation in occupational pension schemes and their role as long‑term investors? - Well‑established national models:
How can the objectives of the Savings and Investments Union be pursued while preserving well‑established occupational pension models, including defined benefit and social‑partner‑based schemes that are embedded in national regulatory and labour‑law frameworks?
